Religion Coverage in the US	Coverage of religion in the US is rarely about spirituality, but about extremism, conflict and politics, as coverage of radical Islamists dominates the news. Because of this, on balance, almost no faith received positive coverage. Basis: 513 stories in US news on religions and religious leaders

No Hope for Afghanistan	The share of negative coverage for Afghanistan has continued its upward trend. Even as the US prepares to withdraw from the nation, there is little media conviction that the situation there has improved – either politically or for its citizens. Basis: 526,611 news stories in 14 international TV news shows, 23,089 focusing on Afghanistan.

European Immigration Debate Grows	Growing unemployment and the popularity of anti-immigration movements has seen Western European countries dominate discussion on immigration. Recent calls by EU president Donald Tusk for the inclusion of Eastern European countries into the EU is set to deepen divisions within the bloc. Basis: 2,183 reports in European TV news

FIFA: From Crisis to Crisis	FIFA has not yet recovered from the adverse reactions to the Russia and Qatar decisions; this internal strife supports external charges of corruption against the governing body of world soccer. Thus, for Russia and Qatar, but even more so for commercial partners, FIFA has become a significant threat to their image. Basis: 688 reports in 28 international TV news programs (preliminary figures for May 2011)

Monarchy Eclipses Serious Issues	In the countries most interested in the British monarchy, the US and the UK, coverage of the royal family has eclipsed coverage of critical social issues like AIDS and poverty. This serves to underscore complaints from some quarters that the expense of the royal wedding is inappropriate in today´s world. Basis: 159 / 369 / 311 news stories in international TV media on AIDS, poverty, and the British monarchy respectively.
